MMS 2008
V1.56 supports Multi User access to your MMS 2008 data.
This is done using MySQL V4.1 which is a database server
which you will need to run (this is a free download).
MySQL V4.1 was chosen as it is available to freely
download & use and works on most Windows platforms.
Requirements for running MMS 2008
MultiUser Edition
1. At least 2 PC's (if you only have 1 PC
then you should try the standard Edition)
2. Windows 98/ME/NT/2000 or XP for the
Client PC's.
3. Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP or a suitable
version of Linux for the MySQL Server.
4. A LAN/Network Connection between your
Client PC's & the MySQL Server.
5. A License for each PC (Client) that
will connect to your MMS 2008 MultiUser database. (you can
run in evaluation mode if there are 20 members or less).
Below are the steps required to install
your MMS 2008 MySQL Server. Please follow them
exactly.

Determine the most suitable PC or Server
to install MySQL V4.1
This should be a PC
or Server that is reliable & is switched on 24/7.
All your MMS 2008 PC's will connect to a database on this
PC to read/edit MMS 2008 information. Consider
adding a UPS to cover power outages & you should regularly
backup this PC.

Download the MySQL files
Download from
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/4.1.html
Scroll down & download the Windows (x86) version

Once downloaded run the file to start
installation (you will see the screens below)

Click on Next

-
Leave it on Typical & click on Next

You're ready to install so click on
Install. MySQL will take several minutes to complete
the installation

Once the installation is complete you will
see:-

Select Skip-Signup & click on Next

Installation is complete, click on Finish.

You'll now be prompted with another wizard
to configure your MySQL installation

Click on Next to begin the configuration.

Select Standard Configuration
& click on Next.

Leave box ticked to install as a service &
click on Next.

Enter a password & confirm the password.
Please keep this password safe as you will need to enter
it into MMS 2008 to connect to the database. Click
on Next to continue.

Click on Execute to start the
configuration.

Your MySQL installation is now complete.
Click on Close. You have now installed the
server side that is required to run MMS 2008 MultiUser
Edition. If you plan to install & run MMS 2008 on
this PC then you should proceed to the MMS 2008 MultiUser
Edition software configuration steps (below).
MMS 2008
MultiUser Edition - MySQL ODBC Driver Install
The MySQL ODBC driver is required to be installed on ALL
PC's that will run MMS 2008 MultiUser Edition. It
is not required on the MySQL Server unless you also plan
to install MMS 2008 onto that server.

Download the MySQL ODBC driver
V3.51.xx Download
from
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/3.51.html
Scroll down & Select the Windows MSI Installer file.
This should be Version 3.51.xx

Once download you should run the
installation file.

Click Next to start the installation.

Select I Accept & Click on Next

Click on Next

-
Click on Next to start the installation.

After several minutes the drive is
installed (you may not get a message notifying you of it's
completion).
-
You should proceed to the next stage &
install & Test MMS 2008 MultiUser Edition.
MMS 2008
MultiUser Edition - Testing your connection.

Download & Install MMS 2008 from
> HERE <

Once you have installed MMS 2008 you
should run the program.
-
Since this is your first time running it
you should follow through the wizards & create the demo
database
-
Once complete you will be at the Main Menu
with 15 example members.
This proves that MMS 2008 is
working as it should be.

Click on Tools & Select Options.
-
Click on the MySQL Tab
-
Enter your servername, username & password
in the boxes provided.
The servername is the PC/Server
that you installed MySQL onto at the beginning of this
page.
The username is 'root' [without the quotes]
The password is the password you typed in when doing
the MySQL Server install (see
bullet point
14 for more
information)

Click on Test to check your
connection to the database

You should see a message saying that the
test was successful (see below). If the test worked
then you should click on Save/Close & follow the
instructions. If the test failed you should recheck
your password & try again. Verify that MySQL V4.1 is
installed on a server & it is working.

When you next start MMS 2008 it will be
reading/writing the data from your MySQL database.
It will also read MultiUser Version
above the Main Menu.

Congratulations!! MMS 2008 MultiUser
Edition is now installed & working. Repeat the above
process (Install ODBC driver then MMS 2008) for your other
PC's that want to share the MMS 2008 data.
Note: If for
any reason your MySQL Server is unavailable then your
MMS 2008 client pc's will not be able to read the
database. It is important that you install the
MySQL server on a fast & reliable machine & that you
back it up regularly. |
